Members of the SysLogic team came together to support our volunteer partner, The Women's Center of Waukesha. The team packed gift bags full of hair care products and accessories for the women who seek shelter at the center.
The mission of The Women's Center is to provide safety, shelter, and support to empower all impacted by domestic abuse, sexual violence, child abuse, and trafficking. As the only agency of its kind in Waukesha County (spanning 580 square miles), The Women's Center provides a range of life-saving and life-changing programs and services that heal and empower adults and children on their paths to build a future without violence.
To help Pathfinders get ready for the holidays, SysLogic's team donated a carload gifts and spent the afternoon unloading and organizing an entire moving truck full of donations from local churches.
By the end of the day, the mountains of donations were transformed into orderly piles and moved into storage. The Pathfinders staff selected an assortment of items to present that afternoon to a group of middle schoolers in need. We were happy to be part of the process, and we were moved by the generosity of so many donors in the Milwaukee community.
60% of K-12 schools in the U.S. don't teach computer science, according to a recent study. Understanding how to build, use, and explain technology is important no matter what students do when they grow up.
Familiarity with technology can help build kids' confidence while giving them a competitive edge in their future careers.
The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts.
SysLogic participated with Northwestern Mutual and organizations in the Milwaukee area to educate youth on computer science. Through Milwaukee's Hour of Code initiative, we worked together across the region with a goal to teach at least one hour of coding to over 1,000 students.
SysLogic partnered with Tonawanda Elementary School in Elm Grove, WI where Christy Pernitzke (Director of Delivery Services) taught a 3rd grade class fun coding activities, including a Dance Party where the students created some funky dance moves. The look on the children's faces was priceless as they learned how to put code blocks together to create a variety of characters, backgrounds, music, and all sorts of dance moves. The activity even enabled them to review the actual, behind-the-scenes code. With the holidays just around the corner, the students also had the opportunity to learn how to code through a festive Grinch activity.
Overall, the initiative was a huge success with the participating organizations teaching computer science to over 4,200 students in the Milwaukee region throughout the week. The SysLogic team looks forward to supporting this event in future years.
The SysLogic team looks forward to supporting the Backpack Coalition each year by providing backpacks and school supplies for students with financial constraints, helping ensure they succeed in school.
Led by United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha Counties since 2014, the coalition distributes almost 5,000 backpacks with supplies to students in grades K-12. SysLogic not only collected school supplies and backpacks, but also assisted in turning the Waukesha County Health and Human Services building into a well-aligned backpack distribution center. Furniture was moved and reorganized, and backpacks were moved and organized by grade to provide an easy way for parents and children to pick up backpacks the following morning.
Members of SysLogic's Delivery Team volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) near Children's Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa to make lunches and snacks for the families staying there.
After a tour of the facility, the team went right to work in the kitchen making sandwiches, salads, wraps, and fruit and vegetable snack bags. The refrigerator was soon filled with grab-and-go food for families of the patients at Children’s Hospital. The Ronald McDonald House is extremely grateful for the hundreds of volunteers who lend a helping hand throughout the year.
One of the volunteer initiatives United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha Counties offers is packing snack bags for local children who don’t always know where their next meal will come from.
Members of the SysLogic team spent part of their evening packing snack bags for United Way. The team donated the supplies to fill the 75 snack bags with juice boxes, fruit packs, granola bars, crackers, and snack mix. United Way distributes the filled bags to one of their member agencies that is running low.
SysLogic and United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha Counties partnered to provide IT Innovation Awards to United Way member agencies to facilitate meaningful innovation that leads to measurable outcomes and impact. The awards provide guidance and/or services to an agency with a critical, data-related organizational challenge. The agency is selected based on their response to United Way’s Request for Proposal.

Pathfinders was selected as the recipient of an IT Innovation grant. Pathfinders empowers youth confronted by homelessness, crisis, or trauma to be safe and connected in order to develop a path towards self-sufficiency, healthier families, and a stronger community.
SysLogic will be working with Pathfinders in 2019 on a way to provide timely outcome data so the organization always has a good understanding of current needs and can quickly move from data to action.
Pearls for Teen Girls was the recipient of a grant. This organization works with teen girls by empowering them with self-development tools, guidance, and support to help them reach for bright futures.
SysLogic helped develop a new solution called “Oyster” to assist with the management, outreach, and analytics of the PEARLS program. The new system streamlined many manually intensive spreadsheets and documents. With the data flowing through a central location, PEARLS staff can easily review and report vital information, including girls in the program, attendance history, and hours served. The solution also includes demographic and guardian information for each teen. The new solution enabled PEARLS to increase the efficiency of their program. More information about this project is available on the United Way website.

The team is proud to support the United Way Community Fund and other programs that help so many people in need across the community.
The United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) has provided critical investment in our region's vibrant arts scene for more than 50 years, supporting Southeastern Wisconsin's most prominent performing arts groups. Since its inception, UPAF has raised over $300 million for its 14 member groups and 15 affiliate groups.
A large part of this investment comes via UPAF Workplace Giving campaigns. SysLogic employees enthusiastically support this campaign because they believe the performing arts have a profound effect on the quality of life in our communities. The performing arts strengthen our economy, showcase world-class entertainment, and provide arts education programming to thousands of children each year.
